Octavo. 5.5 x 8.25 in. xiv, 640 pp. Contains 23 then-new, fold-out maps of the several countries described in the text. For its age, the text is in excellent shape. There is age-related toning, but little in the way of foxing. A previous owner has patched a few spots on the title page to both a minor hole and cover old notations. The half title bears the names and signatures of two prior owners.

Illustrated with 23 plates. Plate 1 is the World map which is torn with approx. three quarter loss. Second plate is an engraving. The engraving is followed by 21 folding maps around the World. Maps are generally in very good condition. One map is creased (Ireland) but not torn. Brown calf leather binding with no title label(s). Leather is chipped, split, and edge worn. Outer joints cracked. Covers are mostly detached. Front and rear end sheets have vermin damage but the half title, title page, and text not affected. Interior contents are clean and lightly toned.
