London: Edward Stanford, 1889. 1st Edition . Very Good. 6 x 9 inches (15 x 23 cm). Signed by Author. Green cloth binding. Illustrated in gilt and black to front board and spine. Page edges untrimmed with browning and foxing. Foxing to leading and trailing blanks, half title page, recto of frontis and to ads at rear. Stain to frontis tissue guard. Light foxing to title page and preface, a few spots and light marks to text. Last three leaves of main text have a crease to lower corner. Three colour fold-out maps and eight plates. Inscribed and signed by the author to the half title page: 'Mr. Dearman Edwards - with the author's very kind regards. May 1 1895, W.H. Barneby, Bredenbury Court, Herefordshire'. Edwards was another Herefordshire landowner who resided at Brinsop Court. The author travelled across Canada on the newly opened Canadian Pacific Railroad as the guest of the Vice President of the Manitoba and North Western Railway (in the private director's car). The first half of the book is concerned with the Canadian tour, the second half is an account of the return trip via Japan, Hong Kong and Ceylon. A little foxed but remains an exceptionally bright example. Overall condition is Very Good. Size: 6 x 9 inches (15 x 23 cm). Hardback. Printed pages: x, 316
