About This Item

St. Paul, MN;Toddington, England: LLewellyn Publications/Helios Book Service, 1964-1965. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Very Good. A six-volume run of this occult-oriented periodical, notable in present context for containing the complete text of Elizabeth Higginson's article, "LSD-25: Door Into The Unconscious," which runs to thirty-six total pages across all six issues. St. Paul, MN: LLewellyn Publications, 1964 [No. 6 only]; Toddington, England: Helios Book Service, 1964-1965 [all others]. Edited by Basil Wilby. Six vols., pp.49; 64; 64; 64; 63; 64. 8vo. (No. 6 slightly larger than the others); saddle-stapled in printed wraps. All volumes very good, with light to moderate rubbing and wear. No. 10 with dampstaining to fore-edge, a touch more wear. Higginson's contribution is a first-person account of her experiences during a "course of twenty injections" of LSD, and replete with awesome visions, confrontations with God, etc., Higginson ultimately argues for the LSD's potential as a "speeded-up form of psychoanalysis." The historical record has little to say about Higginson herself, described in the first installment as "a graduate in psychology and philosophy in South Africa [who] took her doctorate in osteopathy in the United States of America. At present she practices psycho-therapy." She receives glancing notice from Gareth Knight (the authorial pseudonym of New Dimensions editor Basil Wilby) in his 2011 memoir, I Called It Magic, who mentions only this "ground breaking series" (p. 50). This run also with much of interest regarding occult, magic, and astrological subjects, including pieces by Gerald B. Gardner, Dion Fortune, Israel Regardie, et al.
