About This Item
Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1865. First Edition. Small 8vo, pp. 310, 23. Brown cloth, some wear at edges, hinges tender. Ex library. Some light marking in ink in the text, with longer remarks at the end by an earlier owner who disagrees strongly with the author. VG. (BAL 4717). Lacks on rear e.p., first state with her writing listing 3 titles and the pubisher's device 7/8 in. tall. Fairly acerbic comments about the habits of her day and about marriage and the relationship between the husband and wife. She makes a powerful case and is rather fun to read.
