Orig. maroon morocco with gilt-stamped seal on upper cover, edges gilt. Zurich, Egli-Schätti (lithography) and Gull (for the editor), 1865. First editions of both parts of this compendium of all coats of arms of Zurich families, still a standard work, lavishly produced. Johann Egli (called Jean, 1828-1870), a lithographer from Herrliberg, had studied at the Munich Academy, before founding his own lithographic company in Zurich in 1860. For the present work, he drew on the rich heraldic and genealogical material left by Heinrich Wilhelm Tobler-Meyer. The first volume contains a contribution by the art historian Johann Rudolf Rahn regarding the monasteries of Maria Einsiedeln and Wettingen. - Ms. note regarding Jacques Meister from Zurich laid in in vol.
