About This Item
New York: Simon and Schuster, 1963 Hard cover in green cloth, with red titling, with dust jacket in mylar, 236 pp. Mod cover art by award-winning graphic designer Lawrence Ratzkin. Chicago-born author James Michael Ullman was also a finalist for the 1964 Edgar Award for Best First Novel with this title. A classic crime thriller, it tells the story of Steve Kolshak, a civil engineer returned from a contract in Arabia in order to find his brother Ed, who disappeared without a trace from a downtown Chicago hotel. He employs a private eye, and is on the radar of police Lt. Van Doyle. The blurb dubs it "an action-filled, fast-moving story of detection and suspense which increases with every page to a thundering finish." Condition: Very Good, with a very good dust jacket. Board corners are slightly rubbed and bumped, and a small dent appears on the front board. Contents are clean but tanned. Dust jacket has wear to quite a few edges, a fold along the bottom rear, head and tail wear to spine, and a couple of quarter inch tears. The overall effect, however, is still pleasing.. First edition, Book Club Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good.
