Minor shelf/edge wear to black cloth spine with gilt titles over off white patterned paper boards. Moderate shelf/edge wear with edge wrinkling to unclipped DJ - now in mylar. Previous owner signed bookplate on inside front cover. All pages are bright, clean and crisp with no toning. The first book of Negro folklore from the North. All the tales were gathered in Michigan. But the storytellers came to Michigan from every state in the South. 13 chapters: The Community and the Storytellers, The Art of Negro Storytelling, Animal and Bird Stories, Old Marster and John, Colored Man, Horrors, Hoodoos and Two-heads, Spirits and Hants, Witches and Wonders, The Lord and the Devil, Preachers, Liars and Irishmen and Fairy Tales.
