Nicola Bayley has collected anything to do with cats for as long as she can remember and she has drawn on this material for 'The Necessary Cat',her gloriously individual homage to the feline race.In this fascinating album, you will find cat toys and plants; odd cat words and even odder cat facts; and cat lore and literature, including nursey rhymes and poems by such luminaries as Eleanor Farjeon,W.B. Yeats and William Wordsworth.
Here are exotic cats, wild cats and cats of artistic and literary distinction illustrated in a variety of styles and media, but all displaying the exquisite miniaturist detail and sly sense of humour that distinguish this favourite artist's work.If you love cats or fine art or delightful entertainment, you will love this book.If ever there were a necessary cat, this is it.
One of this country's (UK) most highly regarded artists,Nicola Bayley is admired in particular for her pictures of cats. She has illustrated several books, including the 'Copycats' series,'Fun with Mrs Thumb', 'The Patchwork Cat' (see my book ID rja28608) and the award-winning 'The Mousehole Cat' (see my book ID rja368110).
Nicola Bayley, born Singapore,1949.Studied graphic design at St. Martin's School of Art and illustration at the Royal College of Art.Soon after she left college,Jonathan Cape published her first illustrated children's book,'Nicola Bayley Book of Nursery Rhymes',which was outstandingly successful and was followed a year later by 'Tyger Voyage' - see my book ID's rja424112,rja424212 (miniature 1st edns/books) and rja424412, rja424512 for true UK,1st edns; both books were translated into seven languages. The fantasy world that she paints is secure and tranquil and full of carefully worked detail. Her jewel-like colours are sometimes applied with a distinctive stippling technique to produce a varied texture. She is particularly well-known for her pictures of cats and her most popular books include 'The Patchwork Cat' (see my book ID rja28608) and,for Walker Books, the series 'Copycats'.She is also the illustrator of 'Merry-Go-Rhymes' and 'Bedtime and Moonshine' (both Walker Books).
