About This Item
Stein & Day. Very Good+ in Very Good+ Dust Jacket. 1973. Book Club Edition. Hardcover. German paratroops dropped on Crete in 1941 becoming the first and only time in the history of warfare than an island was conquered from the air. It was a great triumph for the Nazis because three British cruisers and eight destroyers were sunk. The aircraft carrier "Formidable" was so badly damaged it was taken out of service. So were five cruisers and seven destroyers. Fully half the battleship strength of the Mediterranean Fleet was crippled. And two thousand sailors of the Royal Navy were killed. Ironically, this victory, a bitter defeat for the Allies, contributed to their final victory. Read the book to find out how. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 252 pages; 30863 .
