Four hardcover volumes from Harper & Brothers Family Library 6 inches tall, brown pebbled cloth binding, gilt title to spine, many wood engravings. 1) Selborne 1842, 335 pp; 2) & 3) Insects vols. 1 & 2 1843/1844, 292 pp, 308 pp; 4) Birds 1844, 308 pp. Spine ends frayed, spots to some covers, all bindings tight, text unmarked, very good minus, each in custom archival mylar cover.
HARPER'S FAMILY LIBRARY, advertised as the "cheapest series of popular works ever published," grew over fifteen years to include 187 non-fiction titles.
