New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1898. Later edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo. [4], iii-xx, [2], 2-381, [5] pp. Green cloth with a paper label on the spine lettered in black; top edge gilt. Illustrated with a photogravure frontispiece, a color plate of a miniature reproduction of an illuminated manuscript, and five additional plates, one photogravure, and four color reproductions of photographs taken in nature. With a critical and biographical introduction by George H. Ellwanger. White's book covers the natural history, namely the flora and fauna, of Selborne. He also discusses the man-made history of the area. White concludes with observations of insects, quadrupeds, and birds that he has studied. The author himself had a home in Selborne. A beautifully illustrated volume on British natural history. A Very Good book with toning to the spine and a small bump to the front corner; name on the free front endpaper.
