BINDING/CONDITION: bound in sturdy library-type binding with reinforced hinges (not a library copy though); the binding is very good; most contents very good with the exception of the section of smaller mammals -- this section lacks the magazine cover, the, and some of the pages are taped, one page all there but badly damaged. Two leaves have been replaced with photocopied pages, but have unreadable blurred sections. Other than this one portion, all very good, and all color plates are present. A few markings.. small 4to (10 inches tall) . Description: This is a bound collection of National Geographic magazines focusing specifically on the few animals listed in the title. The Dogs section contains Vol XXV, Number 3, (March, 1919). Articles include Mankind's Best Friend by Ernest Harold Baynes; Our Common Dogs by Louis Agassiz Fuertes and Ernest H Harold Baynes with illustrations by Fuertes. The Cattle sections contains Vol XLVIII, Number 6 (December, 1925). Articles include The Taurine World by Alvin Howard Sanders (with many black and white photo illustrations) and The Cattle of the World by Edward Herbert Miner with 20 paintings in color. The Horse section contains Vol XLIV, Number 5 (November, 1923). Articles include The Story of the Horse by William Harding Carter (with 60 illustrations in black and white) and Horses of the World by Edward Herbert Miner with 24 paintings in color. The Small Mammals section does not contain the cover of first page, but contents are the last portion of Vol XXXIII, Number 5 (May, 1918). Article is Smaller North American Mammals by Edward W Nelson with 32 pages in color by Louis Agassiz Fuertes. The Fowl section contains Vol LI, Number 4 (April, 1927). Articles are The Races of Domestic Fowl by M A Jull (with 67 black and white illustrations) and Fowl of the Old and New World featuring 29 color paintings by Hashime Murayama. The Insect sections contains Vol LVI, Number 1 (July, 1929). Articles include Exploring the Wonders of the Insect World by William Joseph Showalter (with 59 black and white illustrations) and Insect Rivals of the Rainbow featuring 24 pages in color -- both photographs by Edwin L Wisherd and paintings by Hashime Murayama.
