Very Good Condition/Very Good. xxviii, 486 pp., introduction, list of illustrations, acknowledgements, explanatory notes, appendices, bibliography, index. "Errata": 1 p., inserted. Frontispiece a black and white portrait (of Sir Redmond Barry]. Buff coloured endpapers. Text is illustrated with black and white photography. Red coloured boards with gilt titles on backstrip. Photographic dustwrapper, which shows the old Victorian National Gallery building at the top of Swanston Street. Blue and black titles on the front panel and on spine. The National Gallery of Victoria came into being within a few years of the proclamation of the colony of Victoria. This is the story of this institution through feast and famine, political upheaval and various directors "who attempted to shape and control its art collection according to the current ideas and tastes of their times.". All in all a fascinating history of a Victorian icon. the dust jacket has 3 points of damage, and abrasion on the spine where a price sticker has been, with associated browning, and two pale patches on the right-hand side of the front panel from price sticker residue. internally clean, no annotations, loosely inserted is an erratum slip.
