About This Item

Fairfield, WA: Ye Galleon Press, ( 1996). 1st Combined. Hardcover. Fine/issued without. 12mo, 44, 96, 45pp., reddish-brown imitation leather.

Three bogus accounts of travels in America: an Indian captivity, a 1787 overland account, and a ship's voyage. Introduction by Jim Dowd, who has signed this copy on p.10. These appear to be variants of the same tale, and the pseudonymous DeCalves may be Van Delure who may be Van Leason. All the earlier texts of these suspenseful trips are scarce, with no known library having copies of all three texts. [ See Howes USIANA]. If true, this 1780 cross-country journey would have preceded Lewis & Clark by nearly twenty years!

About Thomas J. Joyce And Company

Joyce And Company has been in business as a professional rare bookseller and appraiser since 1975. Owner Thomas Joyce was the regular book appraiser on Home & Garden TV\'s \"The Appraisal Fair\\\" program, on international broadcasts. Thomas Joyce was the co-discoverer of George Washington's personal copy of William Leybourn's 1679 edition of THE COMPLEAT SURVEYOR, from which young Washington learned some of his surveying skills at age 16. The book had vanished for nearly a century until its re-discovery in 2017. It is now back at Mt. Vernon.
