Washington: Government Printing Office, 1879 First edition. Edited... by Prof. J. E. Nourse. Thick 4to. [8], I, 644pp. 2 steel-engraved portraits, 72 wood-engravings, photo-engravings and heliotypes (some full-page), 12 maps (mostly folding or double-page), one large folding map in rear pocket, 8 sketches by Innuits. Olive cloth, illustration in gilt on front cover. Rebacked with original spine laid down. Extremities and cover with light rubbing, owner's name on fore-edge of text block and title page. A very good copy. This expedition was supported by private subscription and was undertaken to search for the records of the Franklin Expedition and to promote and benefit the cause of geography, navigation, natural history and science. From winter quarters in the Wagner Inlet and Repulse Bay regions, Hall's four man party explored the shores north and west from Melville Peninsula to King William Island, 1864-69. Includes detailed information on the Igloolik Eskimos of Repulse Bay, information on Franklin relics, on the fish and game of region, the auroras, traveling conditions, etc. [Arctic Bibliography: 6486]..
