Washington [DC]: Government Printing Office, 1879. First edition. Hardcover. Ex-Library. 4to. [9], ii-l, [2], 3-644 pp. Green cloth with a gilt decoration on the front board, gilt lettering on the spine. Illustrated with a frontispiece, several folding plates and maps, and several heliotype plates (with Indigenous Americans depicted on a few of the heliotype plates). The textblock also contains in-text wood engravings. Edited under the orders of the Hon. Secretary of the Navy, by Prof. J.E. Nourse, U.S.N. U.S. Naval Observatory, 1879. A reading copy. Rebacked with the original spine laid down. With a few library markings from the Hudson Bay Company, this volume lacks its title page and instead has a facsimile title page in its place. Also lacks the folding map normally found in the volume's rear pocket.
