Wash, DC: Govt. Printing Office. GOOD(worn) book. Red/brown cloth. Gilt dog team on front cover.. 1876. 1st edition. Hardcover. GOOD book. VG inside BUT: (1)inner hinge papers cracked (2) 1st frontis loose (3) both frontis' foxed. Thick folio, 696pp. . Cover gilt still bright. All illustrations, maps, steel engravings and the two color lithographs largely free of foxing (save frontis'). A few tissue guards also foxed (which has offset to the respective plates) but very light & only in the margins. Cover tips and lower edges worn through to the underlying boards, Spine heel worn down to text block, spine top frayed. Paper of inner hinges cracked but hinges still strong and rest of text block tight. .
