About This Item

Palo Alto: Lewis Osborne, 1966 First reprint of the account published by N.P. Brown & Co. of Nevada City in 1858. Introduction by Richard Dillon. 86, [2]pp. Illustrations from views and portraits, map endpapers, folding facsimile laid in. Green cloth. A fine copy. Bolin was a gambler in the California mining camps and Oregon who was tried and hanged in Nevada City for murdering a miner. This account, as told to his lawyer, was an attempt to win support (for he claimed the killing was an accident) and overturn his death sentence. Dillon, in his introduction, states that only one copy of the original edition is known! This was Lewis Osborne's first book to win the Award of Merit from the American Institute of Graphic Arts in their "Fifty Books of the Year" competition..
