Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1860 First American edition - author's edition. "The Voyage of the Fox in the Arctic Seas" at top of title page. 15 engravings, facsimile of document, 4 maps - 2 are fold-out. xxiv, 375 pages plus large folding map at back. The large folding map at back entitled "A Portion of the Arctic Shores of America" is 21 1/4" x 18 1/4" tall. Geological fold-out map is 10 3/4" x 8". 8vo 8 3/8" tall x 6" reddish pebbled cloth stamped in copper on spine with blindstamped image of the ship Fox on front and back boards with same image stamped in gilt and copper on front. The Facsimile document has tape stains at the folds and is archivally taped at some of the the folds with some small loss at fold. Some short tears in the large map have been repaired with nearly invisible archival tape. Large map has three small marks - two small circles and one arrow in blue. See photo. Flyleaf has been expertly replaced and the rear endpage has been nicely reinforced at hinge. Tightly bound. Back cover has a few light spots. Some wear to spine ends and corners of cover. Tightly bound. Text looks generallly clean. Good condition..
