Very impressive looking collectible book.252 pp. Facsimile reprint edition of the original 1877 First Edition. One of the riskiest, most exciting operations of the Civil War â and certainly the most profitable â was blockade-running. More than 8,000 steamers, especially designed for speed, engaged in running the Federal gauntlet. Long, low and loaded to the gunwales with contraband cotton, they cleared Southern ports and, if all went well, returned with precious war supplies.
