New York: St Martin's Press, 1978 First printing of the first edition, first state: publisher's review copy with promotional material, two errata slips, and Jiri Weiss' black-and-white photograph of the author that was used for the jacket bio laid-in. Signed by Ntozake Shange directly on the title-page and directly on her black-and-white photograph; additionally, Shange corrected the error on the dedication page, adding the following commentary: "typesetters resist / modernization of / language;" Shange also corrected the error on p.98 along with her initials. Scarce thus. Book with a light crimp to front corner boards and the cloth overlay at spine ends softly crimped, else book in fine condition; dust jacket with a tiny closed tear/crease to bottom front cover and light wear to extremities, else fine.
