List of illustrations, acknowledgements, comparative chronology, introduction by author, notes, list of maps, bibliography and index. Between pages 160 and 161 there are 16 pages of colour and black-and-white illustrations and a few black and white photographs. Throughout the text there are three maps, two double page. 1/4 red coloured back strip with gilt coloured titles. 3/4 blue coloured boards. Colour illustrated dustwrapper with blue, gilt and white coloured titles to the front panel and white coloured titles to the back strip. Title says it all. Rubbing of the book corners and softening of the back strip edges. Very light age toning of the text block edges and pages. Little creasing of the dustwrapper edges and rubbing of the panels. Full number line. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [6], VII - XXXII, [2], 350, [2] pages,. Deckled Front Edge (rough cut). Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
