Brown cloth on boards. Small library label stuck in on front paste down endpaper. Neat previous owners name on title page. Clean copies with no other markings or labels throughout. An attractive mid nineteenth century binding.:

Marbled endpapers, top edge gilt, frontispiece, publsiher's device on title page, vignettes. One of 400 copies of a limited edition. (Ideas, Essays, Guardian, The, Newspapers).

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1897. Hardcover. See Description. Large 4to. pp. XVI, xxvii, [1], 470, [2]. With 22 portraits engraved on copper and 33 full page illustrations including the frontispiece. Hundreds of illustrations with the text. Plates have tanned or browned with age. The plate opposite p. 62 has a chipped outer edge. Maroon cloth with gilt decoration - a garland surrounding the crown of France inside ornate borders. The endpapers are similarly decorated. Some wear at the head and tail of the spine. Corners a bit bumped. All edges gilt. Interesting picture book illustrating this period of French history and culture.

Philadelphia: E.L. Carey & A. Hart, 1834. Eugene Francois Vidocq is considered the father of criminology and the first private detective. This is a one-volume edition of the original four-volume work, first published in 1828. Front board is nearly detached and cloth spine shows considerable wear. Boards are waterstained as is some of the interior of book, althoough textblock is tight and only lightly foxed.. Early Edition. Cloth Spine, Paper-Covered Boa. Good/None. 8vo.

G+/1st ed./ #67 Printed by Ashantilly Press, a small privately owned press housed in the Darien Georgia plantation home of Thomas Spaulding. Closed for quite a few years, Ashantilly Press was considered one of Georgia premier small presses. This is copy 67 of 100 printed, in marbled paper over boards and has a hand tied binding. Clean and secure in its binding, this copy has some light foxing throughout and a little more conscentrated on pastedowns. Paper lable on front has some light staining. Truly better than Good+ condition, but priced with faults considered. Size: Elephant Folio - over 15" - 23" tall
