New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1897. Hardcover. See Description. Large 4to. pp. XVI, xxvii, [1], 470, [2]. With 22 portraits engraved on copper and 33 full page illustrations including the frontispiece. Hundreds of illustrations with the text. Plates have tanned or browned with age. The plate opposite p. 62 has a chipped outer edge. Maroon cloth with gilt decoration - a garland surrounding the crown of France inside ornate borders. The endpapers are similarly decorated. Some wear at the head and tail of the spine. Corners a bit bumped. All edges gilt. Interesting picture book illustrating this period of French history and culture.
