Collins, London, 1978. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Very Good. Foreword by author. Red coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip Illustrated dustwrapper with green, red and black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. The author kept a war diary detailing his adventures in British intelligence in the Italian South, and, more particularly it is a portrait of the port city of Naples as it was caught between the invading allies and the retreating Germans. Softening of the back strip edges along with a hint of fading. Age toning of the text block edges and pages. Previous owners' rubber stamp to the top edge of the verso of the front paste-down and title page (well-known Holocaust scholars). A little creasing of the dustwrapper edges with rubbing of the panels along with some grubby marks. Fading of the back strip and sunning to the rear panel.
