About This Item

Thirty Bedford Square london: Jonathan Cape, 1968. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. DELL. MCBEAN. SMITH.. SIGNED. 1st ed, 1968. In the original purple boards, silver titles, spine edge bumped. DW a little soiled, unclipped. Internally, half title, [6], 7-217 pp, inscribed by author "To the only hooliganette in the world from Quentin Crisp" (see p189 for his reference to hooliganette. Ex Harlech library copy with their stamp to fpd & verso tp, evidence of tape removal to fpd, boards, some tiny paper repairs to DW. (Folio, 131*198 mm). An uncommon inscription by the author. Crisp was unfailingly courteous and sweet-tempered, though pretentiousness of any kind inspired him to exquisitely phrased sarcasm. He was his own creation, and by being such did much more for tolerance than many militants. The unique human being who disposed of Dennis Pratt ('as my name was before I dyed it') and wore mascara, lipstick, and powder in order to be Quentin Crisp, will be remembered for that grand assumption.
