About This Item
London, J. Dodsley, 1781. 2 leaves (misnumbered), 88 pp. 8vo. Contemporary half calf (rubbed). From the library of John Whitefoord Mackenzie, with his bookplate (his sale March 24, 1886). London, J. Dodsley, 1781. The preceding first edition was privately printed in 1768 in an edition of only 50 copies on the author's own Strawberry Hill Press, in Twickenham south-west of London. This present drama by Horatio Walpole, 4th Earl of Orford (1717-1797), cousin of Lord Nelson and English man of letter, dealt with another topic that would attract much (scandalized) attention in the Romantic period: incest. - ESTCT 41679; Dibdin, Tour II, p. 619.
