Chicago: Volland, 1917. Octavo. 28th edition. 94 unnumbered pages with both text and color illustrations by Johnny Gruelle, who also created the Raggedy Ann series. The fairy stories included are: The Cheery Cricket -- The Kind Hearted Ginger Bread Man -- The Ugly Caterpillar -- Jimmy Crow and the Owls -- The Good Finger Fairies -- Granny Hawkins -- The Rubbery Dubbery Smiles -- Uncle Clem -- The Happy Story -- The Quarrel of the Winds -- The Mole Hill at Menemshia Creek -- The Discontented King. Bound in a wraparound pictorial paper covered boards lettered in black, some toning to spine in the uncommon original box with a piece torn away at foot. A very nice copy with previous owner's gift inscription.
