About This Item
London: Cresset Press, 1937. First. L. H. Rosoman. Haldane, J. B. S. - My friend Mr. Leakey illustrated by L. H. Rosoman
Published by Cresset Press, London 1937.
First edition with dust jacket.
179 pp.
20,5 x 15 cm
First UK edition, original green cloth with the spine lettered in silver.; pictorial dust wrapper by Rosoman and with several line drawn plates in the text; waterstains on the cloth cover, the dust wrapper has some loss; internally clean and firm and with no foxing.
Haldane, a Marxist and an extraordinary polymath, was renowned for his work on genetics particularly but also in many other fields of science and for putting himself at risk in experiments rather than requiring his assistants to do so. The aim of this wonderfully written book of fantastical short fables was to show that science could be even more astonishing and engrossing than magic.
