London: Cassell Australia, 1956. First UK Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. viii 355 pages, indexed, with 16 pages of half-tone illustrations. Includes a visitor's map of Malabar Farm as loose leaf insert. The red boards are lightly shelf stained, more so on the spine strip, and apart from a gift inscription on the front end paper, a clean, unmarked and solid copy, though obviously second hand. First UK edition. "Louis Bromfield (December 27, 1896 - March 18, 1956) was an American author and conservationist. A bestselling novelist in the 1920s, he reinvented himself as a farmer in the late 1930s and became one of the earliest proponents of sustainable and organic agriculture in the United States. He won the Pulitzer Prize, founded the experimental Malabar Farm near Mansfield, Ohio, and played an important role in the early environmental movement.
