Somewhat scarce first person account of life on the Texas frontier in Johnson & Wise counties in the 1860s-1870s, and in Oklahoma among the Choctaw in the 1880s. James became a teacher and taught Indians in territorial schools. Much on their customs & religion, and the author shows much respect for their lifestyle which he saw endangered by the White Man.
