Edgar Hoover under the Alien Act of 1918, Emma Goldman and over 200 other alien radicals were deported to the Soviet Union aboard the S.S. Buford. This was her report after two years residence in that country under the incompetent and brutal reign of the Bolsheviks. "I found reality in Russia grotesque, totally unlike the great ideal that had borne me upon the crest of high hope to the land of promise.

Synopsis

My Disillusionment in Russia is a book published in 1923 by Emma Goldman describing her experiences in Soviet Russia from 1920 to 1921, where she saw the aftermath of the Russian Revolution of 1917. In it, she discusses how her sympathy towards the revolution became hatred of the Bolsheviks as she saw the party as authoritarian and contrary to the spirit of the revolution.
