Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin and Company, 1903. Large octavo, 171 pages. Illustrated throughout with mounted facsimiles. FIRST EDITION, numbered 193 of 330. Book designed by Bruce Rogers. Author and collector Pennell has gathered a discursive description and bibliography of her collection, featuring cookery books dating from the 15th to the late 18th century. Quarter-cloth over marbled boards with very minor rubbing to edges. Title label in paper on spine. Deckled edges with some uncut leaves, some discoloration to edges else very good condition. Bookplate of Earnest Elmo Calkins, an American advertising executive who pioneered the use of art in advertising and "consumer engineering". Duplicate title label affixed to end paper. In green slipcase with minor wear.
