About This Item

New York and London: Mitchell, Kennerley, 1912. Hardcover. Very Good. Hardcover in red cloth lettered in gilt. xx+604 pp. with index, appendix of field notes and addtional appendix "Questions The Enter Calculations For Position of The North Pole". With 32 monochrome plates. The second edition, the first being published a year earlier by a provate publishing house. Record of the expedition to the North Pole that first reached the Boreal Center, 1907-1909, with a final summary of the Polar Controversy. Cook claimed to have reached the North Pole in April, 1908, which would have been a year before Peary. His claims have been cast into doubt, some believing taht he indeed reached the Pole while others claimed he achieved the "Pole du Froid" instead. Very good with spotting to the spine strip and a couple spots to the front cloth.
