About This Item
East Aurora: "Done into this book by the Roycrofters..." [1937]. First Edition. Small 8vo, patterned brown boards bound in DuPont "Fabrikoid", frontispiece map, 34 pages, untrimmed, leaves unopened in French-fold style, brown silk ribbon. Illustrated with ten half-tones from photographs and in near fine condition.
A pleasing copy of a late Roycrofters title. Carpenter was accompanied on his African big game hunting safari by the famous hunters, Don Ker and Sidney Downey, where he hunted buffalo, rhinoceros, and lion.
Robert Ruliph Morgan (R. R. M.) Carpenter (1877-1949) married into the Delaware DuPont family helping the company to expand and diversify beyond its traditional manufacturing of explosives. Carpenter led the company to produce "Fabrikoid," one of DuPont's early successful non-explosive products-a type of artificial leather widely used in various products, including this book.
