A first edition copy of Samuel Beckett's first published novel, an avant-garde work which is scarce as a first edition in the original paper wraps. The first edition of this work in the publisher's original paper wraps. Lacking the front free end paper.The first published novel of the Irish writer and dramatist Samuel Beckett (1906-1989). This work, full of Beckett's characteristically dark humour, concerns the major themes of insanity and chess. Beckett is considered one of the last Modernist writers, and was a key figure in what Martin Esslin described as the "Theatre of the Absurd". In the publisher's original paper wraps. Externally, generally smart, with creasing to the spine and a little shelf wear to the joints and front of the wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Lacking the front free end paper. Very Good
