Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, 1971. First Edition. Near Fine Condition/No Dust Jacket. CALLAHAN, HARRY, and his students, Fifth Annual Portfolio of the Photographic Education Society, Providence: Rhode Island School of Design, 1971. 27 prints including Callahan's 1967 photo Multiple Exposure/Providence, gelatin silver measuring about 7.25x4.75 inches or 18x12cm, mounted on heavy white card stock measuring 14x11 inches, in its original brown cloth-covered cardboard solander, together with 26 photos by Callahan's students, some of whom went on to become collected photographers in their own right (Paul Krot, Henry Horenstein, Robert Richfield). See complete list below. Callahan was director of the photo department at RISD from 1961 through 1976 and as such was one of the leading art photography educators in the 20th century, as evidenced by the brilliant work of his students displayed here. The photos are various sizes, all mounted. The Multiple Exposure photo here was featured in the Museum of Modern Art's 1976-77 Callahan exhibition (see John Szarkowski's "Callahan," p. 145 (Aperture, 1976). Condition of this folio: The box is slightly dented in front, stained brown along its interior spine, with white stains on the back. The prints are clean with no scratches or stains, ready for framing. Special Limited Edition, first issue in this format. Size: Large Folio (bigger than A3). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
