Boston: Little, Brown & Co, 1950. First Edition. First printing. Octavo (21cm). Original teal cloth, titled in gilt, with original dust jacket; plain endpapers; [viii],310pp; list of Forester titles opposite half-title and on rear jacket flap. Straight and tight, very lightly rubbed at extremities, with small pencil erasure to f.f.e.p.: Near Fine. Jacket unclipped (priced $3.00), spine faded, rubbed at edges with two inch-long tears to rear and a few shorter tears at edges, large chip at base of spine, but clean: Very Good. The sixth published Hornblower novel, written as a prequel to other volumes in the series. The US first edition, published in March, preceded the May UK edition by only two months.
Synopsis
Mr. Midshipman Hornblower (published 1950) is a Horatio Hornblower novel written by C. S. Forester. Although it may considered as the first episode in the Hornblower saga, it was written as a prequel, the first Hornblower novel, The Happy Return, being published in 1937.
