Chengtu, Szechwan CHINA: West China Union University - Harvard Yenching Series, 1936. Good. First English Edition, 1936. With an English Translation by Dryden Lindsley Phelps, West China Union University. Woodblock Print illustrations are redrawn from the original plates by Yu Tzu-tan, 'Penned by the venerable hermit, Kuang Hsii hsin-mao (A.D. 1891) summer.' Hand bound (amateur) in flexible modern boards with red silk oriental fabric on spine by Margaret Geiger, Long Island Buddhist healer, and theosophist. Rice paper text is in very good condition, with closed tear at rear endpaper, front endpapers folded. Tall quarto. A remarkable document. Mount Omei is the highest of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China, and is traditionally regarded as the bodhimaá¹á¸a, or place of enlightenment, of the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra and home of the BaiMei Daosin, the White Eye-browed Monk, a legendary character in Chinese martial arts. It is said his skills made him virtually indestructible.
