Woodbridge: Boydell Press, 1985. First printing of this edition. Hardcover. Near fine. A 2-volume facsimile limited edition reprint of the original edition illustrated by Aubrey Beardsley and published in 1893. Set number 68 of an edition limited to 500 copies. Brown buckram boards stamped in gilt with a floral art nouveau design. Volume I contains a frontispiece and eleven full-page plates by Beardsley and Volume II a frontispiece and seven full-page plates. There are also innumerable decorations by Beardsley throughout the two volumes. Volume I, pp lxiv + 455, contains a new Preface by Derek Brewer, a List of Illustrations, a Note on the Text used, a Preface, Caxton's Preface (to the edition of 1485), Caxtons Table or Rubrysshe of Contents and Books I to IX. Volume II, pp lxv-xc + 458-990, contains a List of Illustrations, a Table or Rubrysshe and Books X to XXI plus a Glossary. The gilt stamping to the spines is just a touch rubbed otherwise these are Fine volumes in an original black paper-covered slipcase that shows just a touch of marking on the top and bottom.
