Volume II of the fascinating and frequently shocking first hand account of a state visit to Morocco by Edmondo Amicis as a member of the 1876 Italian diplomatic mission which gave the first view to Western eyes of life behind the veil of the exotic cultures of North Africa. Translated into English in 1897 from the thirteenth Italian edition by Maria Honor Lansdale. Illustrated with 25 beautiful rich photogravure plates of the land and people of Morocco, each with identifying letterpressed guard tissue. Nicely bound in dark blue cloth with ornate gilt Moorish design and red silk marker ribbon. Fine. Clean, crisp, bright, corners sharp, binding tight, sound and square, all gilding brilliant. Tipped-in color fold out map of Morocco at the back. Previous owner neat cursive signature on f.f.e.p.
