Signed by Other. navy blue cloth with gilt title and cover illustration, octavo, 145 pages, portrait of John Berrien Montgomery as frontispiece; boards are crisp with slight edge wear to tail of spine, fore edges are age toned, pages are a crisp white. Inscribed on front free endpaper by Warren R Howell, president of the firm started by his father, John Howell. Limited printing of 750 copies. Background on the early history of California, Bear Flag Revolt, and establishing military possession with the raising of the American flag at Yerba Buena, Alta California, on July 9, 1846, by the U.S. Navy from the "Portsmouth", under Commander John B. Montgomery
