Alfred a Knopf Inc, 1982. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Near Fine. Winner of the American Poetry Review Prize, the Stanley Kunitz Prize, and a Pulitzer Prize finalist. From the private library of noted American poet William H. Matchett, with his bookplate pastedown on the ffep, and his notes in the index. A stated First Edition, black cloth with silver gilt titles stamped lengthwise down the spine. 8vo. - measuring over 7 3/4 in. - 9 3/4 in. 93 pp., a lovely copy in Very Good condition with minor wear to the cloth and light foxing on the top of the pages. The dust jacket is in Near Fine condition with just a touch of chipping on the top of the front panel. Gilbert's first book since the acclaimed Views of Jeopardy appeared as the 1962 entry in the Yale Series of Younger Poets.
