London: James Bohn, 1846. Leather. 7 vols. Ex-library. OVERSIZE. A set of seven large hardcover books bound in 3/4 brown leather with green cloth boards and marbled endpapers. Condition ranges from acceptable to good+. Each volume has scuffed edges, stickers on the spines, stamps on foredges, and various library markings inside. Some light foxing and age-spotting on and around the plates, but text is otherwise unmarked. Closed tears at head of spine on volume 6. FRONT COVER DETACHED on volume 8. The other volumes' covers are still sturdy. Pages tightly bound across the set, despite aforementioned external damage. The English version (with parts still in Latin) of this comprehensive history of monasteries in the British Isles. Illustrated with numerous black and white engravings. Incomplete set; LACKS volume 1. Each volume measures approx. 15.5" x 10.75
