Small octavo (8 by 6 inches) Mexico : Frances Toor Studios, 1937. First Edition. 202 pages printed on coated stock, (56 pages of text, each section headed by a black and white thumbnail portrait of the artist being discussed, 74 leaves of black and white plates representing the subject artist's work, frontis is in color) good condition (tan hardback cloth binding with mild toning; slight shelf wear to head and tail of spine, and corners, old pencil mark in upper margin of one page - all not affecting contents).

From the introduction: "Here we are merely publishing biographical and critical notes of practically all of the important artists who have helped to make the movement (modern Mexican art) and some of the younger ones of promise, with reproductions of their work. We are including three artists who are not of Mexican origin, but who have contributed to it generously and enthusiastically."

Among the twenty-five artists included are Miguel Covarrubias, Jean Charlot, Carlos Merida, J. Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera, D. Alfarro Siqueiros, and Rufino Tamayo.
