Boston: Dayton and Wentworth, 1854. First edition. Hardcover. Modern imitation black morocco. Very good/Near fine. 128 pages in text. Large 4to, 29 x 24 cm. Sixty-four engraved plates plus frontispiece with an additional four pages at rear: "The New Lien Law of Massachusetts, In Favor of Mechanics, Passed in 1851, with all the Amendments in full to 1853." Shaw, an author of several pattern books presents here a number of house designs (Grecian and a few Gothic, and one Italian villa). His designs were popular in rural New England. Glossary of Architectural Terms. HITCHCOCK 1157. KARPEL B109. "Shaw's fourth and last book. It contains, in addition to the usual practical material, numerous designs for houses in the Grecian, Gothic, and Italian tastes as well as several of the Gothic church designs for which Shaw was well known." Moderate foxing to frontispiece and title page, light to occasional moderate foxing throughout. Bookplate of The Victorian Society in America and owner inscription. No other ex-libris marking.
