About This Item

New York: William Morrow & CO., 1950., 1950. First edition. First edition. Near fine in dust jacket with light wear to the spine ends and corners, a small crease to top edge and bottom edge of front cover and lightly soiled on the back panel. Author's fifth mystery novel. Paul Ballard is the head of Missing Persons Bureau, and his customers are the people of the city who have lost other people and want Ballard to bring them back. But Ballard's prize customer is found dead, and this particular murder tears City Hall wide open. It left him with one crazy thousand-to-one chance of saving all the things he stood for, and his boss was not fooling when he said, "It's your funeral!"
