Methuen, 1920. Hardcover. Good. 1920. Third Edition. 267 pages. No dust jacket. Grey cloth. Rough-cut pages. Light thumb marking, foxing and tanning to pages. Much more prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Hinges are lightly cracked but boards remain firmly attached. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild staining, tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has minor tanning with soft crushing to ends. Book has a slight forward lean.

It will be of interest to students and scholars of the essay in English literature. It is a fine introduction to Chesterton's social criticism, which remains unique for its willingness to criticize some of the uncomfortable truths about capitalism without straying toward an inhuman bureaucratic socialism.
