BOSTON: WELLS AND LILLY, 1829 Book. Good (-) Book. Hardcover. Assumed First Edition.. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Obscure still plain boards with paper over spine title. Paper spine title all but chipped away, with moderate heavy edge wear, slight warping to thin boards and corner creases. Sir Walter Scott was still alive (d. 1832) when this volume was published. Nice secure text block with large chips at front/rear endpapers and rubbing at front/rear pastedowns. Private Library (bookplate) of GEORGE M. GAGE. No. 303 at front pastedown. George Manlius Gage, son of Dr. Leander Gage and Ann Brewer Sargent, was born in Waterford, Maine on Aug. 22, 1834. He married with ELIZABETH S. WEBBER on Aug. 15, 1861 in North Bridgton, Maine. At that time he was a resident of Beverly, Mass., she resided in Maine. He was principal of the State Normal School, and afterward the same in Minnesota. In September 1872 he became superintendant of schools for St. Paul. About 8-1/4 x 4-3/4 with 301 pages. This is ONLY a single volume (VOL. IV. BIOGRAPHICAL MEMOIRS) of a six volume set. .
