Book Condition: Good +; light shelfwear; light bumping to top of front board; two small tears in fabric at top; one small puncture to fabric near top edge of front board. DJ: Good; NOT Price Clipped ($3.95); missing piece at top of spine; wear to tail; small puncture near top of DJ above title. Khaki cloth boards and spine with orange and red lettering on the spine and front board. Pictorial endpapers. Clean internals; internal hinges are sound and not split. 320 pp 8vo. This is the story of Martha Berry who was born into wealth in the post-Civil War South who refused to forget the poor Americans living in the southern mountains of Georgia. From a chance encounter with a poor family became Martha Berry's log-cabin school and later into Berry Schools in Rome GA where her vision of a residential school for young men and women with limited educational opportunities would help break the cycle of poverty that pervaded the rural South in the early 20th century. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.
